The 2011 U.S. Frontiers of Engineering symposium book is now available. This volume includes 15 papers in four topic areas: additive manufacturing, semantic processing, engineering sustainable buildings, and neuroprosthetics. US FOE meetings bring together 100 outstanding engineers (ages 30 to 45) to exchange information about leading-edge technologies in a range of engineering fields. The papers describe leading-edge research on such topics as how additive manufacturing is changing surgery, large-scale visual semantic extraction, challenges and opportunities for low-carbon buildings, and retinal prosthetic systems for treatment of blindness, among other topics. Appendixes include information about contributors, the symposium program, and a list of meeting participants. This is the seventeenth volume in the US FOE series.
