2022 EU-US Frontiers of Engineering Symposium

Know Before You Go

The goal of Frontiers of Engineering meetings is to create useful interactions across disciplines among outstanding early-career engineers. Here are some helpful hints to ensure you get the most out of the symposium.

  • Review the session and speaker abstracts beforehand. Talks may be outside your field so having some background will help you get the most out of the presentations. Write down 1-2 questions or issues you would like to raise during the Q&A sessions, and remember, there are no stupid questions.
  • Check out the participant list. Make a list of 3-5 people you’d especially like to meet, and connect with them before the meeting.
  • Leave your laptop in your room during the symposium. If you are working during the breaks, you miss opportunities to develop new contacts. If you are working during the sessions, you not only miss great presentations and discussion—and the chance for an “ah-ha” moment—but you may distract those around you.
  • Dress comfortably.  You can leave your business attire at home. You may want to consider having layers for comfort inside and outside.
  • Know the rules
    • Participation in Frontiers of Engineering programs are by invitation only. Please be aware that guests are not included at meals, events, or online spaces
    • There are no restrictions on entering Slovenia due to covid-19. General recommendations in the current epidemiological situation:
      -   the use of type IIR or type FFP2/N95 masks in closed public spaces, healthcare and in homes for the elderly,
      -   hand hygiene and coughing and sneezing,
      -   maintaining mutual distance,
      -   avoiding touching the face (eyes, nose and mouth),
      -   effective ventilation of closed spaces,
      -   in case of signs and symptoms of SARS-SoV-2 infection, it is necessary to stay at home,
      -   testing in case of suspected infection,
      -   vaccination against covid-19.
      -   The use of a protective mask is mandatory in medical institutions, social welfare institutions, homes for the elderly and in pharmacies.
